Mt. Carmel Sand and Gravel was founded in 1918 on the Wabash River near Mt. Carmel, IL. In 1949 we began doing soil stabilization on small county roads in Southern Illinois using soil cement. Soil stabilization soon became our mainstay operation and by the early 1970’s we began using lime products and learning more about the benefits of the chemistry of lime for soil drying, modification and stabilization. Still until the late 1970’s our company was focused on projects in the region surrounding Mt. Carmel, IL. In 1979 we received what can now be considered our big break. GM announced that they were going to build a new production facility in Wentzville, MO. We worked as subcontractors to Ryan Inc. Central, out of Janesville, WI for our first large scale stabilization project and by the time we finished the job we had treated over 8,000,000 square yards and saved GM millions in excavation costs. This job and several others to follow put Mt. Carmel and the soil stabilization industry on the national map. We’ve been doing major projects like this, as well as small, one day jobs across the country ever since. Mt. Carmel Stabilization Group, Inc. – Today Today at Mt. Carmel Stabilization Group we operate up to 16 full time crews throughout the country and we maintain several strategically located storage facilities with over 150,000 tons of material capacity. This capacity is vital to our flexibility and customer service as we ship an average of over 2,000 tons a day of material to our various crews throughout the country. We will complete over 600 projects in any given year ranging from a 2,000 square yard parking lot to a 5 mile section of Interstate 70 in Ohio, to a 500,000 square yard building pad with multiple lifts of treated soil. We have also completed work on over 100 airports and after sixty years of soil stabilization we have worked in 36 states across the country. We are proud of the work that we’ve done and the reputation that we have built along the way for quality and customer service. Most importantly, we are proud of our part in the growth of the soil stabilization industry across North America. |
