Commercial and residential developments are frequently incorporating retention ponds to add to the scenic beauty of a finished site. Typically fine, clayey soils will retain water well in these applications but sites with coarse, sandy soil, are too permeable and the water will leak out of the retention pond and action must be taken to fix this problem.
Bentonite is naturally occurring clay that is highly expansive when mixed with water. Mixed with coarse soils at a pre-determined rate, bentonite works to fill the voids and reduce the permeability of the untreated soil. |
